1. Lead Clay Workshop Instructor & Studio Support

Location: Paint-In Memories – Santurce, Puerto Rico
Anticipated Start Date: Summer/Fall 2026, or sooner for the right candidate

About Paint-In Memories

Paint-In Memories is a creative studio where people come to disconnect from stress, reconnect with their creativity, and create lasting memories through art.

We offer pottery painting, clay workshops, canvas painting, glass fusion, candle making, tote bag painting, and other creative experiences in a welcoming, organized environment.

We believe our customers are not simply purchasing an art project—they are investing in an experience.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced clay educator who can confidently lead workshops while also contributing to the daily operations and overall customer experience of the studio.

Important: This Is Not an Entry-Level Clay Position

We are looking for someone who already has significant experience teaching or guiding clay workshops, classes, camps, or group instruction.

This position is not suitable for individuals who are looking to:

  • Learn clay for the first time
  • Gain introductory teaching experience
  • Receive extensive clay training
  • Work only as an independent clay artist without customer interaction or studio responsibilities

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in clay instruction, workshop leadership, camp instruction, classroom teaching, or group clay education
  • Experience teaching beginners
  • The ability to independently lead workshops from start to finish
  • A strong understanding of handbuilding techniques
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills
  • Professional, reliable, and organized work habits
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to provide clear instructions in both Spanish and English

Workshop Schedule

This position includes leading a minimum of three clay workshops per week, currently scheduled during:

  • Friday evenings
  • Saturdays
  • Sundays

Additional workshops may be added as the clay program grows.

Workshop Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and demonstrating handbuilding and clay techniques
  • Guiding students through projects step-by-step
  • Helping beginners feel comfortable, supported, and successful
  • Providing creative support and troubleshooting assistance
  • Preparing clay, tools, templates, and workshop materials
  • Setting up and breaking down workshops
  • Maintaining an encouraging and positive learning environment
  • Helping ensure workshops begin and end on schedule

Studio Support Responsibilities

All Paint-In Memories team members contribute to the overall customer experience and daily operation of the studio.

Studio responsibilities may include:

  • Greeting and assisting customers
  • Explaining activities and helping customers get started
  • Providing attentive customer care throughout each visit
  • Preparing customer workstations and materials
  • Washing and maintaining brushes, tools, bins, and studio materials
  • Recycling and reclaiming clay
  • Assisting with dipping, kiln preparation, loading, and unloading
  • Maintaining organization and cleanliness throughout the studio
  • Restocking beverages, materials, and supplies
  • Sweeping, mopping, and completing general studio upkeep
  • Supporting teammates during busy shifts, workshops, parties, and special events

These responsibilities are shared among a team of approximately three staff members.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

The ideal candidate:

  • Enjoys teaching and helping others learn
  • Is patient, calm, and emotionally mature
  • Takes initiative without requiring constant direction
  • Notices what needs to be done and takes action
  • Values organization and cleanliness
  • Enjoys interacting with customers
  • Maintains a positive and professional attitude under pressure
  • Is comfortable receiving feedback and coaching
  • Takes pride in creating an excellent customer experience

Who May Not Be a Good Fit

This position is likely not the right fit if:

  • You are looking for someone to teach you clay
  • You have clay experience but little or no teaching experience
  • You prefer working alone without interacting with customers
  • You dislike cleaning, organizing, or supporting studio operations
  • You require constant supervision or repeated direction
  • You are uncomfortable receiving constructive feedback or coaching

Application Requirements

Applicants will be asked to:

  • Complete the Paint-In Memories job application
  • Submit photos of their clay work
  • Provide details about their previous clay-teaching experience
  • Submit a brief introductory video
  • Participate in the studio’s interview and evaluation process

Before applying, please ask yourself:

Can I confidently guide a beginner through a clay project from start to finish without requiring additional clay training?

If the answer is no, this position is probably not the right fit.
